About three dozen pipers and their guests were able to be there and we enjoyed playing some sets of well known favourites. http://www.northumbrianpipers.org.uk/uploads/images/HOL%20Gracie%20Gray.mp4 We were also treated to solos by Richard Cooper and Adrian Schofield If you want to hear Adrian’s version of The Coolin, click on the link. We would love to have given you the music to have a go yourself, but as you might know, this is a tune that has been open to many different and equally beautiful interpretations over the years and we doubt if there is a definitive version – enjoy! http://www.northumbrianpipers.org.uk/uploads/images/Gracie%20Gray%202%20AS%20solo.mp4 There are more photos on the website www.northumbrianpipers.org.uk and in the next newsletter – and do please send us any of your photos you would like to share. New Beamish Session

29 January 2014

Meeting at 8pm on the last Wednesday of the month at Home Farm, Beamish Museum:

F & G pitch pipes and other instruments welcome.  Dave Shaw  0120 7231474 dave@daveshaw.co.uk

'The session was in the delightful setting of the farmhouse kitchen in Beamish on the museum site. There was a lovely welcome when I walked in. The fire was burning and the tea and biscuits were a treat. There is the enjoyment of another age experienced in sitting in that kitchen surrounded by the paraphernalia of a bygone age, playing pipes (and other instruments) and the expected amount of musician banter – I am always amazed that when players get together they sometimes even play tunes.  I got my pipes whisked off to be mended, played and heard some new tunes. What more would I want of a session? It will be lovely to see more players there next time, it is a big kitchen and there is certainly room to be filled.'  (Ednie Wilson)
