Northumbrian Pipers’ Society events newsmail             September 2016

NO PICTURES ? View online here

To all members:  This list now goes to Tourist Information Offices in Northumberland, so if you have any regular (or occasional) piping at which you’d welcome visitors to hear the pipes, please let me know!

We hope you’ve all been enjoying your summer piping.

President’s Day at Warkworth was a well-attended friendly afternoon as usual, and NPS President Joyce Quin entertained those who could be there with refreshments - and the pipers in turn entertained some appreciative visitors to the village on its show day.  Pipers’ Fancy played for the crowds at the Flower Show too.

After the Bellingham Show competitions on 27 August Judge Rob Say, Intermediate winner Jack Famelton and steward Kim Bull played for appreciative visitors, in the sunshine outside the tent. The longest-running piping competition looks to be in safe hands, but please come along next year, compete or play, and help continue the tradition at this country show in the heart of Northumberland.

The NPS Annual Competitions

will be on  Saturday 15th October at the Chantry, starting at 11 am

followed at around 2.30 by the usual piping session.

The closing date for overseas classes and for compositions is 30 September.

Please submit entries by post to Ann Sessoms, 9 Acorn Lane, Shiremoor, Newcastle upon Tyne NE27 0GE or as a pdf to annsessoms@@yahoo.co.uk.

Overseas entries may be by CD or soundfile via email or web link (not youtube please).

If you have trophies from last year,

please contact secretary@northumbrianpipers.org.uk to arrange their return, thanks!

A word about bursaries – for young pipers ….

The Young Musicians’ Fund, established by Kathryn Tickell, holds grant-allocation meetings twice yearly, usually in May and October (next closing date for applications is 21 September) so any young piper wishing to apply for a grant under this scheme should apply in advance of those dates. This Fund is for under-18s in Tyneside, Northumberland and Durham, and further details are here:  https://www.grantrequest.com/SID_1042/Default.asp?SA=SNA&FID=35023&SESID=62433&RL=

…… and for pipers of all ages!

The NPS considers applications from pipers of any age for support with piping-related activities at any time of year – email the Secretary for details.

The 37th Annual Rothbury Piping Course runs from 23 – 25 September

For further information contact Graham Lockwood

at grahamlockwood@btinternet.com or 01669 620683
