Text Message Northumbrian Pipers’ Society Events newsmail - November 2014 We hope you enjoyed your first newsletter from our new editor Richard Taylor and are very pleased to say that he was not too daunted by the task and is asking for contributions towards future editions – if you have any articles or ideas to offer, please contact him at newsletter@northumbrianpipers.org.uk If you wish to get the next newsletter, please check that your subs are up to date for 2014 (they are due on 1 April each year) and if they aren’t, please get paid up! Information about subs rates and ways of paying is on the website. Last call for President’s Piping at the House of Lords I need to submit names to the House of Lords in about a week’s time, so please let me know if you would like to attend this special event. Our President Joyce Quin has invited members and their guests to join her for piping and light refreshments in the River Room of the House of Lords from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday 11 December. She will also invite members of both Houses of Parliament to hear and meet us, so this is a great chance to spread our music to a potentially new audience. Priority will be given to those who were unable to attend last year, but it looks very much at the moment that there will be room for all who wish to go, so please contact Pam at secretary@northumbrianpipers.org.uk now if you’ve been thinking about it. This friendly playing group shares much loved tunes and learns new ones in the beautiful setting of Gateshead Heritage Centre on the Gateshead Quayside next to the Sage Gateshead. The session happens every four weeks on a Saturday. This is a drop in session starting at 11am and running until 1pm, with a small donation of £1 each to the Centre. Forthcoming dates are 8 November, 6 December and 3 January 2015. 8 November 2014 Gateshead Pipemakers Co-op afternoon at St Mary’s Heritage Centre, Gateshead NE8 2AU, following the Piping meeting the same morning. TS21 2AE, County Durham, which is behind the parish church.The main meeting starts at 8.00pm in the main hall. This is an excellent venue with great acoustics and has been the Cleveland Branch home for many years now. The December meetings include our annual Christmas meal as well as the usual playaround sessions. If you are in the area do come along and join our friendly group to play or listen to the wide variety of tunes. Everyone, in turn, gets the opportunity to choose the tunes to be played if they wish 13 November 2014 Berwick (Spittal) Pipers meet at the Blenheim Hotel, Spittal TD15 1RD from 7.30 pm. Sessions last 2-5pm (approx) and players of all abilities are welcome. Tuition is provided separately for beginners during the first half hour or so. It is hoped to hold some pub sessions on the first Monday of the month from April. Cleveland Branch Playing Group Practice

The Cleveland Branch Playing Group meet every 4th Wednesday of the month for practice upstairs at Ceddesfeld Hall, Rectory Row, Sedgefield. TS21 2AE, County Durham at 7pm till about 9pm.  The playing group are a very active group with the aim of taking the Northumbrian Smallpipes and Northumbrian music out to the public. We usually have very busy year and have performed at many events such as festivals, National Garden scheme events, concerts, weddings, schools and fetes.

Pipers are very welcome to join us and play, though tunes and discussions are restricted to the playing group repertoire.
