JUNE AND JULY NEWS.

Tom Fairfax hosted a Northumbrian Piping tent at Glendale Children’s Day at Wooler in June – this is a great day meeting hundreds of school children and letting them hear piping and have a try the plastic pipes. This photo of pupils from Amble First School is from the Northumberland Gazette.

In June I am sure quite a few of you played at Queen’s Birthday celebrations - here are a few of the Longframlington Pipers entertaining the guests at the village tea party in the Memorial Hall – send us your photos for the website!

Rothbury Music Festival in July was a wonderful weekend, as usual, and the Newcastle House session between the competitions and concerts attracted some great pipers (and a concertina player!) and was great to listen to, even from outside!

We also spotted some al fresco fettling!

A word about bursaries – for young pipers ….

The Young Musicians’ Fund, established by Kathryn Tickell, holds grant-allocation meetings twice yearly, usually in May and October (next closing date for applications is 21 September) so any young piper wishing to apply for a grant under this scheme should apply in advance of those dates. This Fund is for under-18s in Tyneside, Northumberland and Durham, and further details are here: https://www.grantrequest.com/SID_1042/Default.asp?SA=SNA&FID=35023&SESID=62433&RL=

…… and for pipers of all ages!
The NPS considers applications from pipers of any age for support with piping-related activities at any time of year – email the Secretary for details.

Northumbrian Pipers’ Gathering at Wallington Hall, Cambo NE61 4AR

There has been a tradition of Northumbrian pipe playing at Wallington since the days of Jack Armstrong and Patricia Jennings (our past President, who died in 2013 and was the last member of the Trevelyan family to live at Wallington. If Braham’s Lullaby happens to be played at Wallington, it will be in her memory! Last year a record number of pipers turned up at the NPS Wallington Hall event. We hope to better that this year, so please come along and enjoy. Piping is from 2pm, and will be in the central hall if necessary! Pipers (and National Trust members) get free entry on the day. http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/wallington/
