   Northumbrian Pipers’ Society events newsmail March 2017

 

Our special event this month is the first Newcastle Piping Festival, from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 March – see details below – come along and enjoy a feast of piping!

 

 

 

 

Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering is 50 this year! 

 

The closing date for tune compositions for the Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering is 18 March – details on www.northumbriana.org.uk

 

Also in the Gathering schedule are two community band workshops with Stewart Hardy at the Chantry Museum on Wednesdays 29 March and 12 April (6 - 8 pm) – pre book with kim@northumbriana.org.uk  £6 for adults, school-age free.

Philip Gruar handed over the third of the sets commissioned under the NPS Pipes Purchase Scheme, at our Christmas party.

Gateshead St Mary's Playing session

St Mary’s Heritage Centre in Gateshead hosts a regular piping session where all abilities are welcome. This friendly playing group shares much loved tunes and learn new ones in the beautiful setting of Gateshead Heritage Centre on the Gateshead Quayside next to the Sage Gateshead. The session happens on the first Saturday of the month. This is a drop in session starting at 10am and running until 12 noon. The players all get to use the space for a small donation of £1 each to the Centre.

Alnwick Pipers' Society Sunday meeting

Alnwick Pipers' Society has a practice session at Newton on the Moor Village Hall NE65 9JY on the first Sunday of the month beginning at 1.45 for a 2.15 start.

Beldon’s Slow Session 

On the first Monday of the month Ann Sessoms leads a session for pipers who prefer a gentler pace than most sessions.  It will meet at Beldon's at the Exchange, Howard Street, North Shields NE30 1SE from 7 - 9 pm.  (If the first Monday is a bank holiday the group will meet on the second Monday)  Beldon's is a music-friendly pub within easy walking distance of North Shields Metro station and with plenty of parking in Howard Street.

Cleveland Branch

Our meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at Ceddesfeld Hall Community Centre, Rectory Row, Sedgefield. TS21 2AE, County Durham, which is behind the parish church.The main meeting starts at 8.00pm in the main hall. This is an excellent venue with great acoustics and has been the Cleveland Branch home for many years now. If you are in the area do come along and join our friendly group to play or listen to the wide variety of tunes. Everyone, in turn, gets the opportunity to choose the tunes to be played if they wish.

Cleveland Branch Playing Group meets every 4th Wednesday of the month for practice upstairs at Ceddesfeld Hall, Rectory Row, Sedgefield. TS21 2AE, County Durham from 7pm till about 9pm.  The playing group are a very active group with the aim of taking the Northumbrian Smallpipes and Northumbrian music out to the public. We usually have very busy year and have performed at many events such as festivals, National Garden scheme events, concerts, weddings, schools and fetes.

 Pipers are very welcome to join us and play, though tunes and discussions are restricted to the playing group repertoire.
