Gateshead St Mary's Heritage Centre (next to the Sage) Forster Charlton Memorial Concert £5 0191 433 6965 www.gateshead.gov.uk/whatson
Gateshead Council and Northumbrian Pipers' Society concert featuring Forster Charlton and his Music will be held on Thursday 22nd November at 7.30 pm. It takes place in an excellent venue, St Mary's Heritage Centre, Oakwellgate, Gateshead NE8 2AU, which is the beautifully restored church at the south end of the Tyne Bridge. The cost is only £5.00 - tickets at the door. The location is central and easily reached, and although parking is limited at the Heritage Centre, there are several convenient car parks on both sides of the river.
Forster Charlton was a fiddler, a piper, a composer nd a great champion of Northumbrian music. The concert will be an affectionate portrayal in reminiscences and music of him and his musical legacy. Artists appearing are: The High Level Ranters, Joe Crane, Neil Smith and members of Robson's Choice, Kevin Doonan, Anthony Robb, Dave McQuade and Andy May. This should be a great evening, as Forster Charlton had an enormous impact on Northumbrian music generally and on piping particularly, and the concert is made up of excellent players who knew him and played with him or who represent his legacy. There may also be an opportunity to join in some of Forster's favourites, so bring your instruments.
