Chantry museum close to flooding but OK so far

Postby Julia Say » Tue Sep 25, 2012 8:10 pm

Water levels in Morpeth have been very high all day, as some of you may have seen on news programmes.
Anne Moore and a team of volunteers have worked all day from 8.30 to clear the ground floor to beyond the danger level, and everything valuable is now stored upstairs.

So far (9pm Tues) the water has receded a little from its peak, which was up against the Chantry wall, although there was no ingress. It is still raining so the museum is not out of the danger zone just yet, although with any luck.....

There are pics on Facebook and in various places on the BBC news websites, look for ones with almost drowned box hedging beside a river, if you're not familiar with the place.
