Christmas has many traditions both ancient and modern - one piece of ritual silliness is the annual Wanney's Yomp - when pipers from far and wide gather on top of Great Wanney crag in central Northumberland to play tunes, share cake and see whose fingers drop off first. This event, as ever, takes place on the 26th of December and offers a fine opportunity to challenge any Turkey inspired lethargy.

The plan is to meet on top around 10.30am. It's not overly strenuous (but boots recommended) and takes about 30 minutes to walk up from either the Sweethope Lough side or the north road.
Here's the top: ... &A=Y&Z=120
North Road: ... &A=Y&Z=120
South Road: ... &A=Y&Z=120

After playing some tunes, we wend our way back down and head off to the local pub - the Gun Inn at Ridsdale. Liz & Michael are very friendly hosts and have opened the kitchen for food (best to check if you are going to rely on this). We should be there around 12.30 and there'll be music for as long as people choose to play.

All musicians & guests welcome, the pipers will pretty much all be in F - but some of us are adaptable (there are also two rooms)

Please join us and continue the fun.

Bacon-inna-bun will be on offer on the summit around 11am (pipers take priority!).
