Goose Quills for Chanter Staples

Whilst perusing the Border Pipes Site in search of parallel inspiration.... I came upon a suggestion re using Goose Quills as Chanter Reed staples...

Has anyone tried this... ? (I have a flock of geese which moult vast quantities of Quill Feathers Twice a year....)

Hi Tom,

Supposedly Joe Hutton used a goose quill staple in his ivory pipes for many years.

Why not give it a shot?

I guess the advantage would be that you can find more different sizes than with off-the-shelf tubing. The disadvantage would be that when you want a specific size a suitable piece would be harder to find.

Good luck!
