Reed suppliers

Dear All,

I would be interested in making my own cane drone reeds but don't know where to source them from, any suggestions?
Is it tremendously frustrating or rewarding? Or am I better off with a Starbucks straw Francis?

Hi Paul,

I don't know of any economic source of small diameter cane. A friend bought some from here and was pleased with it but it seems terribly expensive:

This page from the site offers miniature drone cane of the right sizes:

One thing that's often forgotten is that thin diameter twigs from bushes can be used to make good drone reeds. Elder was commonly used and is easy to find.

The Starbucks stuff works well . . . . but only on larger diameter bores of the same material!
