Just for info - about year ago (I think) the 'New Statesman' had a picture of a grey violin on its cover. A quick look at the short article about the picture said that it was a copy of a Strad made by this '3D printing' process. If I recall it correctly, the article was open about the violin being playable but not good, and the current limits of the process, but quite confident about the potential to refine it relatively rapidly. I had the feeling that the people doing it had chosen a violin because it would be an attention-grabber,
