Wood lathe vs metal lathe

Postby bob Salter » Sun Jul 22, 2012 10:03 am

For many years 20+ i was a woodturning pipemaker. I got my first metal lathe a couple of years ago and while I used the wood lathe MUCH less, I still found myself using it. However I have now got a boxford tud lathe and a milling machine on the way. Space is at something of a premium. I cant decide whether to lose the woodlathe or not. Do i really need it?

Any thoughts?

Hi Bob

I can use my Myford ML7 for wood turning if I need to so, if it was me, I would get rid of the wood lathe if pipemaking is its only use. Of course, if you make chair legs or fruit bowls then the wood lathe is king.
