New or old

Apologies if I ask stupid newbie questions

I have been interested in NSPs for quite some time but have finally taken the plunge and decided to get a set

Apart from which key I should get - F, G, F+ (what on earth is that about?) - there's the question of new or secondhand

Does anyone have any advice or stories? And if I get a new set, do you need to order or can you buy 'off the shelf '?

And how important is it to have someone local to set the pipes up, or is basic maintenance fairly easy?

Many thanks

John Liestman's excellent tutor book is available as a download from our website in exchange for a donation to Medecins Sans Frontieres. It will answer many of your questions- it includes a section specifically on purchase, specifications etc.
