Tune of the Month June and July 2011

Postby Dally » Wed Jun 29, 2011 10:47 pm

"Felton Lonnin" was suggested as tune of the month for June. I forget who suggested it. I didn't make a video due to an extremely busy travel schedule over the last six weeks, but I hope to get something up on youtube by Thursday--tomorrow. If not then, then sometime soon, I hope.

Perhaps the lack of response indicates a lack of interest, or perhaps "FL" is just too much to attempt right off the bat.

Looking for something a bit more accessible, the tune for July will be "Roxburgh Castle."

Please post a link on the forum and/or dartmouth news group.

Here are a couple of youtube items that already fit the bill for July.

What's your take on the tune?

Here's another take on "Roxburough Castle", this time on a set of Border pipes in G.

That Roxburgh Castle setting, I noticed, after the 2 repeated bars in the 2nd half, that you chose to jump to C to G and B to G. In the older manuscripts this is C to F# and B to E. In newer, it is C to A and B to G. Am I missing something here? Also, I thought this was a vigorous reel, rather than a hornpipe; play it how you like though!
