November TOTM: the 6/8 time signature

There was one suggestion for "Felton Lonen" and one suggestion for tunes in the 9/8 time signature, so I decided to compromise with tunes in the 6/8 time signature. That's a very open catagory, including variation sets, slow airs, marches, and jigs. You can perform "Felton Lonen" if you want.

Here's an Irish set dance tune, the Humours of Bandon. Joe Hutton played it on the Wild Hills o' Wannies LP.

Listening to that without knowing the name of the tune I would have thought it a Northumbrian tune, no doubt, because it sounds like one on your chanter, Chris. That's a compliment, just in case anyone thinks otherwise.

I hope Edric Ellis won't mind me posting a link to his recording of "Keelman O'er the Land":

here's my offering to the piping gods and goddesses:

The first is from the playing of Joe Hutton, and the second is a tune by Roy Hugman, "Morpeth Town." It's a smashin' tune but one my best musical friends, Wally Bell, was born and raised in Morpeth.

For November three wedding tunes in 6/8 from Pete Stewart's great book WELCOME HOME MY DEARIE, page 111. The tunes are "The Feet Washing" and "The Bride has a Bonnie Thing" I and II, although I took some liberties with the bride. :o
