In the Wikipedia article on Robert Reid it states that the probable year of the family's move to North Shields is 1802.
Does anyone know of the evidence for this :?:

I guess Graham got the info from poring over trade directories from the early 1800s,
so there must have been a sighting in Newcastle before 1802, and in N Shields subsequently,
but with enough gap to justify that 'probably'. I don't have Graham's email, unfortunately,
but I was working more as editor than primary author on that bit.

Do check with Dr W.
I may have missed them or not found the right directory, but I have not found any references to Robert Reid in early trade directories anywhere. This area was not well served with directories at that time.
There are references to James Reid in directories from the 1850s, which show his removal from Dotwick St to Linskill St. at some time between 1850 and 1855 In these he is variously described as "musical instrument maker" and as "music teacher".
For me, this raises another question: has anyone ever found any references to either (a) instruments other than pipes made by James, or (b) his pupils?

I'll ask Graham if he is at the next Calthorpe session.
I imagine he had to do a lot of digging.
