gig bag for pipes

Postby Polly » Mon Feb 11, 2013 7:06 pm

hi,
I am looking for a lighter alternative to my hard carrying case for my pipes. Does anyone know whether a gig bag for another instrument would fit northumbrian pipes?

The usual recommendation is either an alto saxophone gig bag, or a largish (diameter is the critical thing - take your bellows to the shop!) photographic tripod case.
Those with multiple chanter acquisition disorder have been seen with tenor saxophone bags.

Hope this gives you a start.

I have built a cloth roll with split cane sewn in for protection. Originally designed so that I could carry my pipes in a military Bergen whilst on ops, I use this most of the time now. Not exactly what you are after but a very flexible alternative.

Hope this helps
