How old are Burleigh pipes?

Postby RobSay » Tue Dec 08, 2015 10:50 am

This is a question that I get asked quite a bit - so in an effort to collate what little information I have; here's a timeline:

http://milecastle27.co.uk/rob/2015/12/d ... -timeline/

I'm a little short of dates in the 1990's and early 2000 - if you know of any dates for sets with a serial number in the #1000 - #2000 range, it would be very helpful to add these in.

The second bit of info I'm missing is when the Longframlington workshop opened (David was previously working out of Morpeth)

thanks

Rob

David was working in Longfram in 1980 (or possibly 1979) when I visited him with my first set (I'll know for sure when I find the bellows for that set as it is dated)

Thanks Mike - I've got one report from another source of a 1979 visit to Longfram to order / collect - so that certainly pushes it back

Hello Rob
I have a Burleigh set completed April 2006 (I've got the receipt), no. 2885. It's a 7K Reid silver set, now with Schofield chanter reed and Evans drone reeds. This doesn't seem to fit with your listed 2829, 2008. I've tried to attach a photo but the file is too big for this software.

The best source of information about Burleigh pipes and their chronology is likely to be David Burleigh himself.

I've got a set No 2580. The original chanter reed is dated 1999.
