SUMMARY:Pipers' Picnic at Beamish\, to honour Dave Shaw
DESCRIPTION:NPS Pipers Picnic Sunday\nJune 8th 2025\n1200hrs GMT onwards\n1950’s Welfare Hall\, Beamish Museum. \nIMPORTANT UPDATE ***\nSet list and tune book now available!!\nBoth Ednie and I have been busy putting together a set list and compiling the tunes into a very ‘Beamish-esque’ PDF tune book. We won’t be offering printouts however participants are warmly invited to request a digital copy in advance from ednie.wilson@gmail.com.\nYou may wish to print this at your leisure\, or bring your 1950’s tablet device or even commit them to memory and bring your head! Whichever you choose\, you will be made most welcome at the Inaugural Beamish Pipers Picnic. \nThe Northumbrian Pipers Society have been invited by Beamish Museum to hold a ‘Pipers Picnic’ similar to the Tanfield Railway event in 2023. The afternoon will be made up of two sessions with a break for food and the opportunity to explore the museum. Each piper is entitled to a complimentary ticket for themselves and a friend or partner. This is also the ‘heavy horse’ weekend and the museum are expecting an increased number of visitors – a great opportunity to bring the instrument to a wider audience! \nBoth we and the museum hope to make this an annual event however the inaugural event will be dedicated to the memory of Dave Shaw. Dave did so much to bring piping to the museum and his loss has been felt by many of the staff and volunteers. This will also be a lovely opportunity for those who wish to gather to honour Dave in the form of a traditional F session in a place he loved so much. \nBooking is not essential however an indication of your intention to attend would be much appreciated. \nAll enquiries to myself\, Vincent Syson \nvincent.syson@northumbrianpipers.org.uk \n  \nFacebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beamish-Museum/105980726099566

SUMMARY:Dave Shaw Memorial F session
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday April 30th\, 8pm\,\n1940’s Farm\, Beamish Museum\, Stanley DH9 0RG UK \nBy kind permission of Beamish museum\, Ednie Wilson and I have managed to book the 1940 Farm Kitchen for a one off pipers session in memory of Dave Shaw. Those who were members of the society before COVID will no doubt remember the Beamish F session\, hosted by Dave on the last Wednesday of every month. There would always be a warm welcome and roaring fire along with tea and cake. As the museum gradually opened up post COVID\, measures put in place for the safety of staff and visitors meant that the F session was no longer viable and it sadly came to an end.The session we have organised will be held on the last Wednesday in April\, tea and coffee will be supplied by the museum and we are all encouraged to bring cake. There will be a limited amount of parking available in the yard opposite the farmhouse and someone should be on hand to direct you to an appropriate space. If you can’t find a parking space\, please park somewhere sensible and safe. \nThis is a private event\, held outside of museum opening hours thus\, expressions of interest would be most welcome so we can let the museum know how many people to expect. Contact Vincent Syson\, email at bottom. \nDave was happiest at Beamish when everyone was playing together so expect all of the classic tunes and of course\, all abilities are welcome. \nFrom the main entrance\, take the first left and follow the road towards The Regional Resource Centre/ Beamish Golf Club. The farmhouse will be immediately visible on the left. Mobile signal can be really unreliable so please do contact me in advance if you have any doubt about finding the farmhouse. I have included a map below which should hopefully be clear enough. \nExpressions of interest to myself – \nvincent.syson@northumbrianpipers.org.uk

SUMMARY:57th Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering 25-27 April 2025
DESCRIPTION:Jamie Allan\nThis event has been an important feature in our calendar for a long time. It is described as \nAn exciting three-day annual festival of street entertainment\, indoor events\, music\, dance\, craft\, dialect\, heritage and traditional fun – always held the weekend after Easter in the medieval market town of Morpeth\, 14 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne. \nThere are usually several piping events on the Saturday. Full programme http://www.northumbriana.org.uk/gathering/docs/2025prog.pdf \nCompetitions are expected to be held in the Chantry Museum on Saturday. \, 1.15pm for 1.45. Competition tickets for entrants/audience £2/£1.50 includes free entry to exhibition \nMeet the pipers. Chantry Museum Sat 10-10.45 \nPipes & Border pipes Session\, 8pm Conservative club \nBagpipe Allsorts Sunday 11-12 Chantry Museum £3/£1 \nNorthumbrian Ranters youth folk ensemble St James Centre Sunday 2.15-3.15 £5/£2 \n“We’re hoping to raise enough money to have the full Saturday procession as in past years (who’d like to join Robson’s Choice in the parade?)\, with a crowdfunding campaign and patrons’ scheme to attract support\, since it’s become so much more expensive and logistically complex to sustain the festival in recent times. But we have within a packed programme of music\, dance\, craft\, dialect and heritage a variety of piping sessions\, concerts and workshops not just for Border and Northumbrian pipes but in fact all types of pipes.  Competition details are on northumbriana.org.uk/gathering and the programme should also be available by the time the newsletter goes out. \nThe Morpeth Chantry TIC box office opens on 1st March. We expect the performers will include Bob Fox & Stu Luckley\, Jez Lowe\, Northumbrian Ranters\, Young Pipers’ Group\, Shonaleigh\, Taffy Thomas MBE\, The Ran Tanners\, David Faulkner\, Real to Reel Ceilidh Band\, Megan Wisdom & Mossy Christian\, Jim Eldon\, Ellington Colliery Band\, Nonsuch Dulcimers\, Graham Bell\, Voice Male\, Werca’s Folk\, local dance teams\, etc.” \nEnquiries to kim@northumbriana.org.uk \nhttp://www.northumbriana.org.uk/gathering/ \nhttps://www.facebook.com/morpeth.gathering/?locale=en_GB \n
