Fettling

The Pipes can be sensitive to conditions and may need maintenance, or Fettling.  Whilst some basic maintenance can be done at home, there are a number for people who can undertake fettling when required to bring pipes into peak playing condition.

Many Pipemakers only service their own pipes whilst some will undertake more general work.  It is always best, if possible, to ask the maker first.  There are a number of people who will undertake fettling. Have a look at our Pipemakers and Fettlers page, or visit The Pipemakers’ Co-Op at St. Mary’s Heritage Centre, Gateshead on the second Saturday of the month.

We also stock copies of Colin Ross’ excellent “Reedmaking for Northumbrian Smallpipes, Scottish Smallpipes & Border Pipes”.
