57th Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering 25-27 April 2025
April 25 - April 27

This event has been an important feature in our calendar for a long time. It is described as
An exciting three-day annual festival of street entertainment, indoor events, music, dance, craft, dialect, heritage and traditional fun – always held the weekend after Easter in the medieval market town of Morpeth, 14 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne.
There are usually several piping events on the Saturday. Competitions are expected to be held in the Chantry Museum, 1.15pm for 1.45.
“We’re hoping to raise enough money to have the full Saturday procession as in past years (who’d like to join Robson’s Choice in the parade?), with a crowdfunding campaign and patrons’ scheme to attract support, since it’s become so much more expensive and logistically complex to sustain the festival in recent times. But we have within a packed programme of music, dance, craft, dialect and heritage a variety of piping sessions, concerts and workshops not just for Border and Northumbrian pipes but in fact all types of pipes. Competition details are on northumbriana.org.uk/gathering and the programme should also be available by the time the newsletter goes out.
The Morpeth Chantry TIC box office opens on 1st March. We expect the performers will include Bob Fox & Stu Luckley, Jez Lowe, Northumbrian Ranters, Young Pipers’ Group, Shonaleigh, Taffy Thomas MBE, The Ran Tanners, David Faulkner, Real to Reel Ceilidh Band, Megan Wisdom & Mossy Christian, Jim Eldon, Ellington Colliery Band, Nonsuch Dulcimers, Graham Bell, Voice Male, Werca’s Folk, local dance teams, etc.”
