historic recordings

A list of publicly available archive sounds is given on our Sound Archive page, at Sound Archives and Historic Tapes.  The Forster Charlton Archive is also described there.

The NPS is also aiming to make selected tapes available to members on this page, as and when permission is obtained.

tOM mATHEWS MBE

Tom Mathews was Piper to the Duke of Northumberland between 1971 and 1982, after Jack Armstrong retired. You can appreciate the quality of the playing from this recording. Note that the Clarsach is recorded on the right channel and the Smallpipes on the left, so you may be able to adjust the balance if you wish.

There is also a video of Tom playing
