On the Music Manuscripts page there is a document created by Dave McQuade, who sadly died recently. It includes Forster Charlton’s musical compositions and arrangements, with notes and memorabilia from Dave. in the Pipemaking Information section there is his detailed pictorial guide to making a box, Dave’s design files and his research on chanter tuning.
There is also a paper on the Manuscripts and Documents page based on a talk about the Northumbrian Pipes given by GVB Charlton in 1927.
Tom Mathews MBE was the Duke of Northumberland’s Piper from 1971 to 1982 We have a recording of his playing in the member’s Historic Recordings section which was taken from a cassette circulated to some friends. There is also a video.
We are currently trying to get permission to publish some parts of the Forster Charlton Archive on this website. This is a slow process because we need to get clearance from families.
