The 2nd Newcastle Piping Festival, held on the 22-24 March 2019, was a huge success, with various events, talks, concerts and sessions for pipers and the public alike.
Concerts in the Lit & Phil and St. James & St. Basil’s Fenham saw a variety of piping traditions represented. Chris Ormston, Andy May, Iain Gelston and Sarah Tym represented Northumberland, but this year saw performers from further afield with Birgit Bornauw and Benjamin Macke from Belgium, and the great Anxo Lorenzo from Galicia. Ireland and Scotland were represented respectively by the huge talents of Jarlath Henderson and Ross Ainslie.
The Festival was hosted by The Northumbrian Pipers’ Society and has been generously sponsored this year by The Lowland & Border Pipers Society and Na Píobairí Uilleann.
