Description

A new book, “The Shepherds: the music of Archie Dagg, Will Atkinson and Willie Taylor”, is edited by Alistair Anderson, Andrew Burn, Kathryn Tickell, Graham Dixon, Mike Nelson and Greg Smith. 

It’s the long-awaited fruits of a project begun by Kathryn, Andrew Davison and Chloe Jones of Magnetic Northeast many years ago. Last year Mike Nelson revived the project by rounding up an expert editorial group to get it finished. 

The book contains all the extant music composed by the three, along with biographies of them and Joe Hutton, and notes on the tunes, in many cases from memories of the Shepherds from Alistair, Kathryn, Graham and others. It also includes a Preface by Kathryn, an Introduction by Alistair, and original drawings by John Holder, well-known to folk fans as artist behind many of the posters for the Cambridge Folk Festival. The illustrations also include a number of historic photographs from the editors’ private collections.
